Easily accessible from the shore via a short surface swim, the dive site begins with a series of sand dunes surrounding the marker boy.
EXPECT TO SEE: Blue lined snappers, jack fish, banner fish, red tooth trigger fish, garden eels, anemone fish, oriental sweetlips, juvenile eagle rays (occasionally).
Just a quick 5 minute boat trip on the east side of Fushifaru island is the Fushifaru Kandu, a 500 metre wide channel that has been declared a Protected Marine Area. Blessed with abundant and diverse dive sites, this area is famous for the manta cleaning station, grey reef shark sightings, small cave formations and colourful unspoilt reefs.
The population of mantas is migratory and reaches the Island (on Fushifaru Thila 3 minutes away from our house reef in Fushifaru Kandu) mainly between September and February when the end of the Monsoon season produce plankton for these marine creatures to feed on. In particular Fushifaru Thila is well known for cleaner wrasse stations positioned between 10 and 15 meters of depth all over the reef making the place one of the ‘Must” dive sites. It is common to spot manta rays during the dive. Big schools of hump back and blue striped snappers, close of fusiliers, giant trevally, oriental sweet lips and barracuda are frequent visitors of the Thila.
